Co-host of ‘WeAreTottenhamTV’ Simeon Daniel has urged Tottenham Hotspur to get Lucas Moura ‘off the wage bill’.
The Telegraph has reported that Spurs will allow Moura’s contract to expire at the end of the season. In January 2018 the Brazilian made the move to North London from Paris Saint-Germain for £25 million.
He’s been with the club for five years and has played 218 times for Tottenham, providing 65 goal contributions in all competitions. Moura’s best season in a Spurs shirt came in the 2018/19 campaign where he picked up 11 Premier League goal contributions.
Speaking on ‘WeAreTottenhamTV’, Daniel said that the player is ‘not good enough anymore’ and letting him go would be ‘the best course of action’.
He stated (7:23), “Get him off the wage bill in my opinion. That’s the best course of action, I think Lucas [Moura] is a great guy. I think he’s a great influence in the dressing room, I just think he’s not good enough anymore to what we need. I think he did serve a purpose at one point, but I think that that purpose has been served.”
TIF’s view on Daniel’s comments…
It makes a change for it to not be Emerson Royal taking flack from the media after his apparent bust-up in recent times.
We believe that letting go of Moura is the right move from Tottenham, as it allows their wage bill to be opened up when he departs.
The 30-year-old is said to be on £90,000-a-week (Spotrac), meaning he is one of the top ten earners at Spurs. The money could be used to help bring in a high-profile signing in the near future.
Despite an arguably underwhelming goal contribution return some fans will have a big soft spot for Moura, after all he was the man who bagged a hat-trick including a late winner against Ajax to take Spurs to the Champions League final back in 2020.
Some of the Tottenham faithful will believe that goal alone will be worth the fee that was spent on him, so we expect there will be a big send-off once his contract is up.
