Phil Hay believes Jesse Marsch is leaning towards using a 4-3-3 formation tonight for Leeds United.
Marsch will be looking to guide his Leeds side to their first win since the World Cup break ended and also, try to move away from the bottom three which is certainly staring them in the face.
As things stand Leeds are just two points above the bottom three and have won just twice in their last 16 games across all competitions but with additions such as Maximilian Wober and Georginio Rutter imminently they could be set for a big boost on and off the pitch.
Leeds take on a fellow relegation candidate in Aston Villa this evening when they travel to Villa Park, so it will be paramount that they pick up a positive result or pressure will only continue to grow on Marsch.
This season Marsch has flip-flopped between several formations but Hay has admitted on The Phil Hay Show he believes it will be the 4-3-3 that will be the go-to tactic tonight.
Will Leeds win tonight?
Yes!
No!
He said: (49:30) “He seems to be leaning more towards 4-3-3 doesn’t he? He seems to feel like there might be a little bit more there for Leeds than there was in the 4-2-3-1 even though the 4-2-3-1 had been there for such a long period of time.”
TIF Thoughts on Marsch’s tactical decision…
The inconsistency in formations won’t be helping the Leeds players understand and grasp the roles and instructions Marsch is handing out to them so the American has to pick one and stick to it, otherwise, it’s unlikely things will turn around.
Marsch will know that a Friday night game under the lights against a relegation candidate is huge for both his and the club’s future because even with the board backing him in the transfer market recently, bad results can’t continue to paper over the cracks.
If the Leeds payers are constantly switching roles in a 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 it will only irritate and confuse them and thus make positive results more difficult to attain for Marsch, so he needs to implement some calm, order and consistency.
