Tottenham Hotspur: Dinnery claims Bentancur is ‘bang on’ schedule for injury return

Injury expert Ben Dinnery has provided a very positive injury verdict on Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur. 

The midfielder suffered an injury against Ghana when playing for Uruguay (who he has 54 caps with) at the World Cup, the South American side would be eliminated from the competition despite a 1-0 win against the Black Stars in their final game.

It appears that Bentancur will miss Spurs’ Boxing Day clash with Brentford, but he could be back for the New Years’ Day fixture against Aston Villa.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Dinnery claimed that the midfielder is ‘bang on schedule’ and is ‘progressing really well’.

He stated (7:52), “Some good news coming out of the Tottenham camp. First of all Rodrigo Bentancur, we know that he suffered that an inductor problem out in the World Cup. Initial reports suggested that an adductor issue would take around about 21 days, three weeks, and Antonio Conte said he is targeting a return on New Year’s Day against Aston Villa. So bang on schedule, progressing really well. He’s already working on the pitches.”

We believe that judging by Dinnery’s verdict Bentancur has made fantastic progress, Spurs will be very happy to hear that he won’t be out for the long term.

The midfielder has been absolutely class for Tottenham this season, he’s been one of their most important players so far this season. Harry Kane is the only Spurs player that has a higher average Premier League rating than Bentancur on Sofascore, the Uruguayan has a score of 7.27.

When you compare the 25-year-old’s defensive stats with other midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League, he ranks very well. Bentancur is in the top 19% for tackles made and the top 16% for clearances (FBref).

It demonstrates that he’s such a key component for Spurs when it comes to winning the ball back in the middle of the park.

He cost them around £21.5 million from Juventus which is looking like a bit of a bargain from Tottenham.
