Journalist Dean Jones believes Idrissa Gueye is the type of character Antonio Conte will want in his Tottenham Hotspur team, amid claims that the north Londoners could move for the Senegalese midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur secured Champions League football on the last day of the Premier League season, allowing Fabio Paratici and co to work on the summer transfer window knowing the fate of the club.

One player that is rumoured to be on their radar is Idrissa Gueye. The former Everton man has been in the news controversially recently, but Jeunes Footeux is claiming Spurs are monitoring his situation and could move for him this summer.

The report claims that Spurs are ‘on alert’ regarding the Senegal international’s contract situation and could look to benefit.

Jones looked at the potential move while talking to GiveMeSport, claiming the following: “He’s obviously a warrior and there’s this sort of player that Conte wants to see in there. He’s got this real feeling that losing games didn’t hurt Tottenham enough, so he’s trying to look for players of a certain character at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on potential Idrissa Gueye transfer…

Gueye will certainly bring plenty of experience to the Spurs setup should he join, as having already played in the Premier League, he should be up to speed with the style already. His trophy haul at Paris Saint-Germain is impressive, so he will bring a winning mentality with him.

He has also been key to PSG this season, racking up 33 appearances as he helped his side on their way to another Ligue 1 title.

So we can see why Conte may feel he fits the profile of player he would like to recruit in N17, while the promise of Champions League football may well be a key factor in persuading Gueye to make a switch as the Italian looks to strengthen his side ahead of his first full season at Spurs.
