A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from Fabian Schar after he helped Switzerland beat France on penalties in the round of 16 at Euro 2020.
Allan Saint-Maximin tweeted about France’s loss and then congratulated his teammate, and Schar responded, claiming that he was “sorry” with three silly face emojis suggesting that he wasn’t sorry at all.
The 29-year-old, who is valued at £8.1 million (as per Transfermarkt), came off the bench for the Swiss in extra time and coolly converted his penalty during the shootout to help his country through to the next round, where they will face Spain.
This post drew the attention of these Toon fans who had their say.
“Yes big fab xxx”
“Cool as you like big man!”
“Well in Fab, enjoy the ride bro . . . deserved”
Do you want Schar to start the next game for Switzerland?
Yes, he deserves to play
No, I don't care
Schar started the first two games in the group stages, but since he was dropped from the starting XI, the Swiss scored six goals and have remained unbeaten.
However, his penalty was excellent, and he will hope he has done enough to secure a place in the lineup for the Spain game.
This post continued to draw in Toon fans.
“Cracking penalty!! That’s you on penalty duties next season. Wow”
“Savage hahahaa”
“Goat to goat conversion”
It is good to see a Newcastle player reach the quarter-finals of a major international tournament, and Emil Krafth could join him if Sweden win tonight.
