Tottenham Hotspur believe that Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes is overpriced which suggest they are destined to miss out on signing him.
According to the Daily Star, the North London club believe that the 24-year old playmaker is overpriced, and they will push on in their bid to sign Giovani Lo Celso instead, before making a decision on the Portugal international.
This would suggest that Mauricio Pochettino’s eggs may be mostly all in one basket, as it seems that Spurs are looking to bring in Lo Celso is favour of the Sporting star.
Whether this would be the correct decision or not is another question, however their views on Fernandes suggests they’re at risk of missing their chance to bring him to North London.
Considering that the club have not signed anybody since January 2018 when they paid Paris St-Germain £23m for winger Lucas Moura (Source: Daily Star), this would suggest that they are particularly picky with who they spend their transfer funds on, which could further reduce the likelihood of Fernandes becoming a Spurs player.
The North London club made an initial bid of £53million for Lo Celso back in May, according to the BBC, which begs the question as to how much they would be willing to pay for Fernandes should they be given the chance.
Arguably, the Portugal international would be worth every penny, after scoring 32 goals and registering 18 assists in all competitions this season for Sporting, making him one of Europe’s top performers.
However, it seems Pochettino may be looking elsewhere than Fernandes due to him being ‘overpriced’, which mean Spurs will miss out on a potentially season-changing signing.
This is particularly the case when you consider Fernandes has other suitors as the Daily Star point out that Manchester United are keen on him.
