Aston Villa are to battle it out with Brighton and Hove Albion for the services of Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper, according to Football Insider.
The reliable football news website reports that the two clubs are vying to land the signature of the 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation, as they both see him as an up and coming talent who could potentially have a long-term future at their respective clubs.
Cooper made his first senior start for Plymouth last season, being used as a substitute when injured first-choice keeper Kyle Letheren came off in their match against Blackburn Rovers – and Villa, along with Brighton, are set to test Plymouth with bids for the youngster.
Good move for Aston Villa?
Yes, absolutely. Cooper has been touted as a breakthrough talent and and boss Steve Bruce would be snapping up a talent that could potentially have a long-term future at Villa Park.
It would remain to be seen what role Cooper would play in the first team, and he will likely be sent out on loan again to gain vital playing experience, given he has not played much for Plymouth.
However, Bruce could have a star in the making if they beat Brighton to his transfer.

Likely to happen?
Maybe – it is 50-50 whether they will sign him. Aston Villa failed to gain promotion to the Premier League last season, and this may count against them in the race for the shot-stopper.
The Seagulls are able to offer him Premier League football at the Amex, and he would be able to learn under the experienced Australian international Mat Ryan.
The move will all depend on whether Cooper wants to learn at a Championship side or a team in the top-flight.
