Ipswich Town fans were left buzzing after the club’s new CEO was interviewed for the first time.
Mark Ashton was appointed as the new Ipswich Town chief executive back in April, leaving Championship club Bristol City after spending five and a half years there to join the Tractor Boys, who will be thought to possess the biggest transfer budget in League One.
In his first interview with his new club after officially joining yesterday, Ashton spoke about new signings and what Ipswich Town fans can expect:
“Paul Cook’s been really clear on the type of player he wants, he’s been clear on some of the targets he wants and the club have started to move on some of those targets.
“I will take that over as of today, and I’d like to think that in the next week or so, we can get some of those across the line.
“We’ve got to recruit players that can get us out of this division, and we’ve got to recruit talent around that.
“We’ll look to recruit in all areas, we’ll look to develop the academy – and that will come in time – and we’ll look to recruit players into the U23s, which is the underbelly that we can develop in time for Paul and the first team.
“But we’ve got to recruit players that can help us win games come August.”
Ashton’s comments have gone down well with Ipswich fans on Twitter, who are ‘excited’ for the future of the club.

Paul Cook’s side finished 9th in League One this season but with this new-look setup and some fresh faces expected at Portman Road this summer, they may yet be targeting promotion next season.
