Former Premier League striker Nigel Jemson insists that Virgil van Dijk is a “beast” and has urged any young players to learn from the Netherlands international.
Van Dijk has returned from injury to return to the Reds’ starting line-up, having missed the majority of last season.
The £49.5m-rated defender, of course, has transformed the club’s backline since his arrival from Southampton, and has won multiple trophies during his time at Anfield.
Will van Dijk and Gomez return better than before?
Yes
No
He is both a Premier League champion and a Champions League winner, and Jemson believes that he is one of the finest players in world football.
Since his move, the Netherlands international has made over 130 appearances for the club, although his injury last season ultimately ruined their chances of retaining the title. In total, he made just five league appearances in 2020/21.
Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Jemson, a Liverpool fan, has urged young players to take notes from his style of play.
He said: “He’s an absolute beast and someone that, for me, he just stands out. His body language is so laid back and he doesn’t get frustrated with himself.
“Any young professional footballer who plays in that position should look at him, and you can’t help but learn from him.”
