West Brom signing midfielder Alex Mowatt from Barnsley was an “extraordinary piece of business”, says Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.
Mowatt joined West Brom on a free transfer after his contract at Oakwell expired and has already made an impact for his new side.
The 26-year-old has been among the goals for the Baggies, scoring an absolute worldie last weekend in the 2-1 defeat of Blackburn Rovers.
Mowatt one of the EFL signings of the summer?
Yes
No
It is not the first time Mowatt has played under Valerien Ismael, with the two previously working together at Barnsley. And Hatfield believes Ismael’s decision to bring the Englishman to The Hawthorns with him this summer was a good one to say the least.
“An extraordinary piece of business, really, for Albion,” Hatfield said to TIF. “Mowatt was obviously an integral player at Barnsley under Ismael and he’s showing exactly that for Albion.
“In terms of free signings, it’s probably the pick of the Championship season for me. From what we’ve seen already, he’s an absolutely quality player. The goal against Blackburn was absolutely absurd, a brilliant strike.”
It is early days, but Mowatt is certainly proving to be an inspired signing for West Brom.
With such an addition, the start they have made to the season and with a coach like Ismael, who got Barnsley to the play-offs last term, the Baggies are undoubtedly contenders for promotion.
