Former Premier League footballer Dean Windass believes that new Southampton striker Adam Armstrong will do well in the English top flight.

Armstrong completed a move to St Marys’ from Blackburn Rovers earlier this month, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Saints.

The 24-year-old was in brilliant form for Blackburn Rovers last season in the Championship as he scored 28 goals and provided a further five, as well as getting on the scoresheet in their Carabao Cup match against Doncaster Rovers.

Armstrong was on the scoresheet for Southampton on his debut as he scored Saints only goal in a 3-1 defeat at Everton, before he was involved in the goal in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, and won the last-gasp penalty which saw Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men grab a draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

And Dean Windass believes he will do well in the Premier League.

He told This Is Futbol: “I think he’ll do alright. Scoring on your debut gives you a massive confidence to say ‘yeah, I can cope with this level’, and listen the manager will be disappointed that they haven’t won the game, but he will be delighted that he’s scored.”

After scoring on his debut, Adam Armstrong will also be hoping that he can score plenty more goals this season and helps Southampton improve on last season’s 15th-placed Premier League finish.
