A whole host of football fans have taken to Twitter to slam Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford on his England debut.
The striker was handed his first cap for the senior national side during the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifier against Andorra at Wembley, but he was hooked off after 62 minutes to be replaced by captain Harry Kane.
Are you excited to see Dan James play for Leeds?
Yes
No
The Leeds frontman failed to get on the scoresheet as England were only 1-0 up when he departed the pitch but ended up winning the match comfortably 4-0, and a lot of fans have vented their frustrations at Bamford’s performance.
Many fans have blasted Bamford’s performance against Andorra.
What have these fans been saying?
“It was like playing with 10 men until Bamford came off, he was awful”
“Bamford was awful, so out of his depth against a gang of part-timers”
“I agree poor management from Southgate, by putting Bamford in squad in the 1st place, he’s not good enough for international football, worst performance from an England striker for a long, long time”
“Bamford is nowhere near good enough for England. Should never play again. He was the worst player on the pitch last night against one of the weakest oppositions possible. It’s already laughable how he got picked over in-form Danny Ings and Callum Wilson who are much better players.”
“Callum Wilson, Danny Ings, Calvert Lewin > Bamford. Common knowledge, take your Leeds-tinted shades off”
“Patrick Bamford what a waste of space”
“Agreed, I thought Bamford was terrible, hopefully Southgate now knows this and keeps him out of the 1st XI”
Bamford may have counted himself unlucky to have not received a call-up to the England side last season, or even for Euro 2020, as he finished the Premier League season with 17 goals and was the second-highest scoring Englishman, only behind Kane.
There is a tough battle for striker spots in Gareth Southgate’s squad, with the likes of Bamford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Danny Ings and Callum Wilson all regulars for their club sides, as well as having been capped before, with only the former not yet having scored for the Three Lions.
