Wolves journalist Tim Spiers has been sharing his thoughts on the Old Gold’s lack of Premier League goals so far this season.
This comes after Spiers made an appearance on The Athletic’s Watford-themed podcast From the Rookery End to talk about Wolves’ upcoming clash against the Hornets in the Premier League.
After losing their three opening league games of the season all by a scoreline of 1-0, Spiers had this to say about the team’s attacking force and their lack of goals so far.
He said: “Wolves just haven’t managed to find the back of the net.
“Raul Jimenez, easing himself back in after of course, his life-threatening fractured skull, which people remember last November. He’s sort of easing himself in, really, and is not fully sharp yet.
“I mean, he’s the man that’s going to be charged with scoring the majority of Wolves’ goals this season, so there’s got to be a level of patience there for him to get up to speed, but otherwise, yeah, Wolves just aren’t quite firing in front of goal yet.
“But I think there’s an expectation that if they can replicate their performances from those opening three games against teams who aren’t going to be at the top end of the table at the end of the season like Watford, like Brentford, who they’ve got next, and like Southampton, who they’ve got after that, then they should start picking up some points, they feel.”
TIF Thoughts on Tim Spiers’ comments on Wolves’ attack…
Despite their poor run of results so far this season and the fact that they haven’t managed to score a league goal yet, we feel that given Bruno Lage has started his debut season at Wolves with games against three of last season’s top seven clubs in Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, that probably doesn’t make their lack of goals or points seem a huge problem at this stage of the campaign.
Also, taking into account how only Liverpool (70) and Manchester City (59) have registered more shots at goal than Wolves (57) so far this season, this says to us that as an attacking force, Wolves aren’t doing that badly so far.
Are you concerned by Wolves' start to the season?
Yes
No
Moving forward, given the teams that Wolves face in the next few weeks that Spiers mentioned, unless the Old Gold end up winning those games, then there could start to be some questions raised about the players and manager if their goal drought continues.
