Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Leicester City defender Steve Howey believes Boubakary Soumare is good enough to succeed Wilfred Ndidi at the King Power if necessary.

The Mirror reported back in May that Manchester United had Ndidi on a shortlist going into the summer transfer window.

United did not strengthen their midfield in the end, instead opting to drastically improve their attack by bringing in Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo from Borussia Dortmund and Juventus respectively.

Is Soumare good enough to replace Ndidi?

Leicester, on the other hand, did after they signed Soumare from Ligue 1 outfit Lille for £17m. And should Ndidi eventually depart for a side like United, Howey is backing Soumare to successfully succeed the Nigerian in that holding midfield position.

“It’s a fabulous club, great fans, great ground, got amazing owners,” Howey said to TIF when discussing Soumare potentially replacing Ndidi one day and Leicester as a whole.

“They’ve got an excellent manager. The players they’ve got, the recruitment has been absolutely spot on, so of course he could definitely fill in that position.”

Fortunately for the Foxes, Ndidi still has a few years left on his contract, so they should not have to worry about losing him next summer unless a ridiculous bid comes in.
