Former Tottenham defender Graham Roberts has backed Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici’s decision not to pay £50m for Wolves’ Adama Traore.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham had a £30m bid rejected for Traore the day before deadline day, with Wolves wanting a £50m fee for their winger.

While Traore does not have the best of records in front of goal, the 25-year-old is still a very talented individual. Last season, he averaged 4.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League, more than any player (via WhoScored).

Even so, Roberts has backed his old side’s decision, believing Wolves’ asking price was simply too much.

“The club have Sonny [Heung-min Son] and they have [Lucas] Moura,” the ex-Spurs player said in an exclusive interview with TIF.

“Yes, Traore’s a different player, but when they’re going 50, £60m, no. They’re just playing on English club with English club. So for me, 50 million, no.”

As well as Son and Moura, Nuno Espirito Santo also has Steven Bergwijn and Bryan Gil at his disposal, so it is not hard to see why Tottenham were reluctant to splash out on Traore.

With Nuno clearly a fan of the player, though, working with him at Wolves, perhaps it is one the club revisits in January or next summer.
