JustJoe Football Show presenter Joe Wainman believes Ian Poveda may have had a rift with Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa.

Poveda has joined Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan after finding his first-team opportunities at Leeds limited.

The 20-year-old has only made 20 appearances since joining the Whites from Manchester City in January 2020.

Will Poveda ever be a regular at Leeds?

Poveda also failed to make the matchday squad in the early stages of the campaign but was thrown straight into Blackburn’s starting line-up as they took on Middlesbrough just before the international break.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta insists Poveda has a bright future at Elland Road and has only been sent to Tony Mowbray’s Rovers to develop his career, with the hope he will enjoy as much success at Ewood Park as Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott during his loan spell last season.

But former All Leeds TV anchorman Wainman does not think Poveda has a future at Leeds and believes his move away from the club may be down to some tensions behind the scenes.

Who was Bielsa's first competitive game as Leeds manager against?

He told TIF: “Something went on that we’re not privy to because he’s now on loan.

“He played in the first pre-season game against Ajax but then we never saw him again in the first-team or under-23s. For me, something happened.

“The club have said he will come back. I’m still not sure and I’m not sold on him as a player.”
