Former Premier League footballer Carlton Palmer has hailed Eddie Howe and believes the Newcastle gig is a good job for the Englishman.
The new Magpies manager put pen-to-paper on a deal that will keep him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2024 and is delighted to have been appointed, telling the club’s official website: “It feels fantastic to be head coach of Newcastle. I’m absolutely honoured and privileged.”

Palmer is a big fan of Howe and believes that he is a good fit for the Newcastle job, telling This is Futbol: “I’ve always liked Eddie Howe, I think he’s done a fantastic job. From what I’ve heard about Eddie Howe he’s a student of the game. He goes around the world, watches other teams train, goes and speaks to other coaches.
“So, I’m glad to see him back in the game, I think it’s a good job for him, it’s a great job for him in terms of the money that’s going to be available to him.”
Howe’s first game in charge of the Magpies will be against Brentford after the international break and after a tough start to the season where Newcastle find themselves in 19th spot in the Premier League table, the club and its fans will be hoping for a change in fortunes under the new manager.
With under a couple of months until the January transfer window opens, Newcastle shareholder Amanda Staveley confirmed to Sky Sports that the club are preparing for the January transfer window, saying: “We are preparing for the January transfer window. It’s not a window we would ordinarily want to invest in, because you probably don’t get the right deals, but that’s something that is important at the moment.”
