Leeds United fans have been reacting to comments made by Sky Sports host Jeff Stelling about one of their transfer targets.
A report from TEAMtalk a few weeks ago claimed that Leeds United were among a number of clubs that were interested in taking on Brentford’s star man Ivan Toney. Toney has grabbed 27 goals in the Championship so far this season, an impressive accomplishment for someone who only made the step up to the division this past summer.
This led Stelling, speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday (via MOT Leeds News & HITC) to say: “Whether Brentford are in the Premier League next season, then I think there is every chance that Ivan Toney will be.”
The report went on to claim that any club looking to buy him would need to fork out £30m, although should the Bees be promoted then it’s also possible that they would hand him a new contract in the summer, making any moves rather futile.
However, when his comments were relayed to fans on the Leeds Insider Facebook page, there didn’t seem to be too much enthusiasm, as they felt he was just too expensive and that you could get a lot better value elsewhere:
Do you think Leeds will make a lot of transfers this summer?
Yes
No
Although there was one fan who felt that it might be a solid investment:
It certainly does come across as a lot of money, but at the end of the day, if he can do a job for you, then does the price really matter?
