Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen instantly took to Twitter to react to Arsenal drawing 1-1 with Brighton on Sunday.

The Spurs centre-back simply tweeted three words, “I’ll take that”, following the Gunners not taking all three points against the Seagulls as it did Mauricio Pochettino’s side a favour.

“I’ll take that,” wrote Vertonghen on his personal Twitter account.

Arsenal drawing means that Tottenham have all but sealed a spot in next season’s Champions League as due to Spurs’ superior goal difference.

Tottenham currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot in the Premier League, fourth, and Arsenal would need to win their last game while Spurs lose and make up an eight-goal difference to overtake them.

OPINION

Vertonghen may end up denying that he was tweeting about Arsenal’s draw with Brighton as it’s a bit unprofessional of him to do, but he tweeted just after the final whistle and that is too much of a coincidence. The Spurs centre-back’s tweet will no doubt be lapped up by Tottenham supporters however as they will love him making the most of Arsenal’s misery. The Gunners and Spurs’ rivalry is well-documented and any opportunity for either side to get one over their rivals is usually relished. Then again maybe Vertonghen simply wanted to celebrate Spurs looking likely to be in the Champions League next season. Spurs dropped the ball against Bournemouth on Saturday and put their hopes of finishing in the Premier League’s top-four in jeopardy. However both Manchester United and Arsenal failed to make the most of Spurs slipping up and the London club should be happy as a result.
