Leeds United are set to launch a loan bid for Brighton defender Ben White this summer as Marcelo Bielsa looks to bolster his defensive line, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The newspaper claim on their website that the Elland Road outfit have been on the 21-year-old’s trail for over a year and that they are set to offer him a temporary move to the Championship after playing League One football with Peterborough last season.
Bielsa is said to have turned down a move for White last summer as he was happy with his defensive options but it is stated that the young enforcer is being targeted to act as competition to the likes of Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper.
Opinion
This should have some alarm bells ringing at Elland Road. If Bielsa did not fancy White last summer, what could have changed in 15 League One appearances? Yes, it could be that they were simply not in the market for a defender but surely the Whites need more experience on their books to make a push for promotion. It is not like Bielsa does not have a handful of young talents to call upon to fill the void if need be, the likes of Aapo Halme having covered in the first team when needed. This is not going to be the most inspiring signing of the summer for Leeds and there will be plenty of fans scratching their heads wondering why their side want him. Bielsa obviously knows best and they should trust in their manager’s decisions but you cannot help but wonder if they are making a mistake ahead of the summer.
