Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the news that Oliver Skipp looks set to play a significant part in the first-team set up next season following a successful loan spell.
The academy graduate has started all of Norwich’s Championship fixtures in the current campaign as the Canaries have opened up a seven-point gap at the top of the table.
Spurs have been going through a tough patch of late, and according to The Athletic, Jose Mourinho was reportedly tempted to recall Skipp from his time at Carrow Road in order to help ease their Premier League woes.
Meanwhile, it was claimed that next year may see Skipp return with a stronger claim on a first-team place at the end of his loan spell.
The Portuguese boss is a big admirer of the 20-year-old midfielder, stating he believes the youngster is ‘genuinely Tottenham’s future,’ something the north London outfit’s supporters appear to be excited about:
“Play 4-3-3 Hojberg behind skipp and ndom”
“Playing in a pivot role beside PH will make our defence a lot stronger, and hopefully allow the front 4 to stay a little further up the pitch next season.!and more importantly, he should be able to give PH a break some next year and actually be a legit rotation option”
“Yea. Beside or instead of Hojberg giving him some well-deserved rest at times. Anyways gives us so much more flexibility and cover. Could even (finally) play Jose’s preferred 4-3-3 with Ndombele, Hojberg and Skipp. Or a more offensive Hojbjerg/Skipp flanked by Le Celso, Ndombele”
“He can play alongside Hojbjerg and N’dombele can play further forward. Can’t wait to see this lad play. Hopefully we can see the end of Sissoko and winks”
“Yes I can see Winks leaving so we will Skipp as cover for PH”
“He can rotate with Hojbjerg and then we can sell Winks”
“Bye bye Winks”
Mourinho isn’t renowned for bringing through young, homegrown talents, but the 58-year-old appears to rate Skipp highly, and it will be interesting to see how he fares next season.
