Newcastle fans have been reacting to Liam Kennedy’s suggestion that youth academy star Elliot Anderson could come into the starting XI following injuries to Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.
The 18-year-old forward has made two substitute appearances for the first team this season, both coming in defeats against Arsenal. However, he has fared much better in the Magpies youth team, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in all competitions.
Steve Bruce’s men are in a desperate situation in the Premier League. The St. James’ Park outfit are just three points and one place above the drop zone, having failed to win in their last three league outings.
Injuries to key men in Almiron and Saint-Maximin have left Newcastle short of options in the attacking third, and many supporters feel it’s time for Bruce to put his faith in local lad Anderson:
“He should do he’s the only prospect near the first team. Look at ARS, CHE, both Manc teams. They blood players into the team. Especially during times of injury. Greenwood and Rashford are proof of that. Why don’t we? Get him on a wing and put Matty in Miggy’s place.”
“Fraser and Joelinton with Anderson in the 10 is what id go with.”
“He should do.”
“Defo should. Give the lad a chance”
“People talking about Atsu. Surely Anderson should be in well before him. If not what’s the point. What type of message does it send to the kid.”
A handful of Newcastle fans also flocked to the club’s recent post about the youngster, with many calling for him to be unleashed by Steve Bruce.
“START HIM SUNDAY DROP JOELINTON”
“Play him in the no.10 role since Miggy is out”
“CANNOT be worse than Jacob Murphy”
Newcastle have been moving towards the bottom three for several weeks now, with scoring goals a major issue for the Magpies. Injuries are starting to mount up for Bruce, and the experienced manager could have no choice but to place his faith in this teenage talent.
