Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting to the news that first-choice right-back Serge Aurier could be put up for sale this summer.
The 28-year-old has been putting in some improved performances this season under Jose Mourinho, but with only 18 months left on his current contract, Spurs are reportedly set to sell the Ivorian while they can still demand a fee.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham’s coaching staff consider the former Paris Saint-Germain man ‘uncoachable’ and are set to call time on his four-year spell in north London.
While Aurier has been keeping summer signing Matt Doherty on the bench for the majority of the campaign, he still splits opinion within the Spurs fanbase, largely thanks to his error-prone nature:
“Good, we need a better option at right-back. Even though he’s improved his performances this season, he’s still too prone to big errors that cost us. We need much better right-back options than we currently have. Aurier is just the best of a bad bunch.”
“stupid decision, best rb at the club.”
“Another problem with Jose as a manager, he can’t decide on when to actually out the deadwood and eventually handing out long term contracts to them”
“Omds”
“Good, as long as we replace him with a speedy, attack-minded right-back who is not an accident waiting to happen.”
“Why? Sell Doherty. We’ve only lost 3 games with him all season. Need to focus on new CBs before we get rid of starting full-backs”
“He has not been a good enough replacement for Walker. Strangely scored more goals. Too many errors. Just not secure enough and a Red card candidate.”
“It’s not hard to be, but he’s still the best RB at our club, seems pointless considering we won’t sign anyone”
Aurier may have put in some improved performances this season, but his lapses in concentration have cost Spurs on several occasions over the years. He’s not a player who you can rely on, and therefore, Mourinho may be best off cutting him loose.
