Leeds United fans have been reacting on Twitter after a report revealed the club have entered the race for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The 23-year-old midfielder has spent the second half of the season on loan at relegated West Bromwich Albion, starting 12 Premier League games for Sam Allardyce’s men.
Will Leeds miss Alioski?
Yes
No
Maitland-Niles’ efforts weren’t enough to keep the Baggies up, but he appears to have impressed throughout his short spell at the Hawthorns, attracting the attention of several top-flight teams.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United, Everton, Southampton and Leeds are all interested in signing the versatile England international, but the Gunners’ £20m valuation has put the Leeds fans off the youngster.
“Nooooooope not for me could get same quality or better for half the price elsewhere”
“I think for that price we could get better”
“Rather we spend the money on a Pablo replacement, left-back and a more dominant and physical central midfielder than Maitland-Niles”
“Be interested for 2m, but 20m is just silly. He’s done nothing to warrant that valuation.”
“20m is this a joke”
“The transfer valuations for UK based players is bizarre.”
“It’s madness going for players in the prem when every other league is bankrupt. 20 million? No chance.”
Maitland-Niles still has two years left to run on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium, and with a market value of £16.2m (as per Transfermarkt), Arsenal appear to be justified in their £20m asking price. Whether that puts clubs off remains to be seen, but it’s certainly dissuaded these Leeds fans.
