According to reports from Mirror Football, Manchester United have joined Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon international boasts the most league goals of any player involved in Europe’s five leading top flights this season with a sensational haul of 17 in 14 appearances, bringing his Black-Yellows total to 66 goals in 117 outings since joining the Westfalenstadion ranks from St. Etienne in summer 2013.
Inevitably, a number of top European clubs have taken note of the 26-year-old’s mesmerising form, most particularly European champions Barcelona and Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Gunners were hot on Aubameyang’s heels during the summer, but were politely snubbed by way of a four-year contract extension. They were linked again last month alongside division rivals Chelsea, who have been reported as courting a number of centre-forwards since doubts over Diego Costa’s future at Stamford Bridge first emerged a few weeks ago.
But it appears yet another coveted suitor has joined the race to sign the 6 foot 1 goal scorer, once dubbed ‘the African Neymar’, in the form of Manchester United. They’re on the lookout for added firepower and enhanced speed on the flanks; as a winger-forward famed for his netting prowess and penetrative pace, Aubameyang would address both issues at Old Trafford.
Although Dortmund remain unlikely to sell their firing frontman in January, Mirror Football claim the Red Devils will test the Bundesliga outfit’s resolve anyway. Last month, it was reported that Dortmund’s ‘pain threshold’ is a pricey but affordable £42million.
