According to reports from The Express, Tottenham Hotspur have surged ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United in the race to sign highly-rated Walsall prodigy Rico Henry.
The 18-year-old, hailed as ‘the new Ashley Cole’ by manager Dean Smith, has already made 27 first team appearances for the Saddlers and scored twice in September – including a winner against Scunthorpe – to claim the Football League’s Young Player of the Month award.

The 5 foot 9 full-back’s impressive rise hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Premier League’s top clubs, who always have an eye out for promising home-grown talent. Arsenal and Chelsea were linked last month, whilst more recent reports have suggested a straight-up race between Liverpool and Manchester United to sign Henry in January.
But according to The Express, Spurs have taken the initiative by launching an inquiry into the teenager’s ability and asking Walsall of their valuation.
The British newspaper quote a ‘Tottenham insider’ as saying; “Henry is perfect for the Spurs side that Mauricio Pochettinowants to build – and the lad can play left midfield as well so has real versatility. It’s going to be a question of the right price because everyone is watching the situation carefully.”
