BBC pundit and former Rangers player Alan Hutton has shared his backing for the Ibrox club to launch a move to sign goalkeeper Jack Butland this summer.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the SPFL side are looking to sign the goalkeeper during the upcoming summer transfer window, having had the Englishman on their radar for some time.
This has then led to one former Rangers figure sharing his thoughts on the possible move and how it could benefit the player and the club.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton had this to say about Butland potentially making a move to Ibrox.
He said: “He is a good age, he has not played a whole lot of football over the last few years but he has been out on loan and different things.
“He has got experience, he has been in the England setup. To a certain extent, I see him the way Joe Hart was when he came to Celtic, even though Joe Hart has a lot more experience than him.
“But he is not playing at this moment in time. It is a great opportunity for him. He has still got a good few years ahead of him and that is the kind of name that they need to fill that void with a lot of experience.”
At the age of 29, the shot-stopper has made 293 club appearances throughout his career at senior and youth levels, keeping 83 clean sheets in the process.
Should Rangers sign Jack Butland this summer?
Yes
No
Currently only loan at Manchester United until the end of the season from Crystal Palace, the Englishman has yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils.
Hailed for his “outstanding” performances last year by journalist Josh Bunting, Butland could relish the chance to play regularly at Rangers should they sign him in the summer, especially since they have Allan McGregor and Kieran Wright out of contract.
With all of that in mind, we feel that Rangers should definitely look to sign the goalkeeper this summer should he find his future up in the air after his loan spell with United.
