Wolves are reportedly eyeing a January loan move for Tottenham Hotspur right-back Djed Spence.
The 22-year-old joined the north London club during the previous summer transfer window on a five-year deal from Middlesbrough worth a reported fee of £20m.
Despite being described as an “outstanding” move by Darren Ambrose, things have not been particularly positive for the player at his new club.
Since joining Spurs, the Englishman has only played 41 minutes of action from six appearances across all competitions for Antonio Conte’s side.
Having not been able to find regular game time at Spurs this season, the defender has found himself on the radar of three top-flight clubs for a potential loan move.
According to a recent article in the latest paper edition of the Sunday Mirror (via Molineux News), Wolves are interested in securing a loan deal for Spence.
The report also adds that the Midlands club have some competition for the full-back as fellow Premier League sides Brentford and Southampton are also eyeing him.
Last season saw Spence help Nottingham Forest win promotion to the Premier League as he spent the campaign on loan from Middlesbrough at the Midlands club.
During his time with Steve Cooper’s side, he managed to show what he’s capable of and why he earned himself a move to Tottenham.
Would you like to see Wolves sign Djed Spence?
Yes
No
For example, in addition to scoring two goals and supplying four assists in 39 appearances, the full-back ended the campaign with more successful dribbles (74) and more completed passes into the 18-yard box (41) than any other Forest player.
Then from a defensive point of view, Spence, who has been hailed as ‘unbelievable’, racked up a combined total of 117 tackles and interceptions, the fifth-highest at the club.
This shows just what the full-back would be able to offer a side like Wolves if given the time to play regularly.
Taking all of this into account and the fact that journalist Liam Keen recently urged the Midlands club to bring in a new right-back given the poor performances of Nelson Semedo and Jonny, securing a loan deal for Spence could be a very smart move for the club to make.
