Aston Villa could be without right-back Matty Cash for this evening’s Premier League meeting with Leeds United, Ashley Preece reports.
Unai Emery hasn’t had the best of luck with injuries in 2023, with John McGinn suffering a hamstring problem at the beginning of the year.
Villa fell to a shock FA Cup defeat to Stevenage last weekend, where Leander Dendoncker received a red card, meaning he won’t feature against the Whites. Ludwig Augustinsson has also been ruled out with an ankle problem, and it seems as if Cash could now be missing too.
Preece took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon, relaying updates from Emery’s pre-match press conference. He stated that Cash, who was replaced in the second half against Stevenage, ‘remains a doubt’ due to a groin problem.

Cash, hailed as ‘excellent’ by pundit Trevor Sinclair, has missed just three games through injury as a Villa player, showing that the full-back being doubtful for a game is a rarity.
The 25-year-old has become a reliable member of the squad in recent years, so this update may come as a concern to those at Villa Park as Emery’s side look to get back to winning ways.
Emery does have options if Cash misses out, though, with Ashley Young able to provide cover. Loanee Jan Bednarek is primarily a centre-back but has also filled in at right-back before. Hopefully though, Cash will be passed fit.
