A whole host of Newcastle United fans reacted furiously on Twitter to find out the latest Dwight Gayle injury news.

Last season was a frustrating one for Gayle, who was only handed four starts for Newcastle, and this season is no different, if not worse – as he is yet to start in the league for the Magpies this season having been handed just 23 minutes of football.

This makes the decision to hand him a new contract over the summer even more puzzling, as well as because of his injury record which has seen him pick up numerous knocks and strains during his time on Tyneside, especially in recent years. And it seems those troubles are certainly not behind him, with Jason Tindall confirming the striker felt his hamstring in training this week.

@PasoPeanuts

Gayle has not been handed a good number of starts over the last three seasons, and with Callum Wilson now at the club, that should be no surprise given the latter’s record in front of goal for both Bournemouth and the Magpies, so maybe Gayle could find some kind of form by dropping down into the Championship, where he has a great record himself.
