Portsmouth have confirmed the signing of Liam Vincent on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 18-year-old left-back joins Pompey from National League side Bromley and first came to the club’s attention when he played for Bromley against Pompey’s U18s in the FA Youth Cup, according to Porstmouth manager Danny Cowley, who discussed their new signing on the club website:

“The recruitment team identified Liam and watched him play for both the youth and first teams at Bromley.

“He has a lovely left foot and excellent physical attributes. Offensively, he carries real threat with ball carrying skills and crossing ability. He is also a set-piece taker.

“He has work to do on the defensive aspect of his game and we look forward to working with him on the training ground to develop this area of his performance.”

Vincent played 7 times in the National League for Bromley last season, as the club secured the final play-off spot, finishing seventh and face a trip to Hartlepool in the play-offs on Sunday.

As a youngster, playing in the National League, Vincent is relatively unknown but Cowley speaks highly of the 18-year-old and suggests that Premier League clubs were interested in the left-back.  Whilst the club’s first signing of the summer has ‘excited’ most of their fanbase, it is clear that this signing was one made with the future in mind.
