Television pundit and former footballer Jermaine Beckford has discussed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return to match action for Liverpool.
During the latest round of Premier League fixtures, Jurgen Klopp’s side claimed a resounding 7-0 victory against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace away from home (per BBC).
One man to make an appearance for the Reds was Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was introduced for Roberto Firmino in the second half.
The outing was the 27-year-old Englishman’s first appearance for the Reds this season after having suffered a knee injury earlier this year (per Transfermarkt).
During BBC Sport’s Final Score on the Red Button, Beckford analysed the Merseyside club’s 7-0 win and discussed Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return to action.
Asked if the Reds’ win was a warning sign for the rest of the league, he said: “Absolutely, especially when you look at the names that are out for Liverpool as well, at the moment.
“The players that they’ve brought back in – today we saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, for the first time in a while, actually come on.
“He looked entertaining, he looked up for it and that’s something that Liverpool have been missing but it was quite surprising that Crystal Palace imploded as soon as they did.”
TIF Thoughts on what Jermaine Beckford said about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain…
As can be seen in what the pundit had to say, he believed that the Englishman was “entertaining” upon his return to action and he is something which the Reds “have been missing”.
Is Oxlade-Chamberlain good enough to become a consistent first-team starter for Liverpool?
No, he's not good enough
Yes, he's a solid player
During the 2019/20 Premier League season, Oxlade-Chamberlain made 30 appearances for the Anfield outfit and only managed to bag four goals and one assist (per WhoScored).
His performances, too, were not overly impressive as he was only Liverpool’s 15th-best performer with a 6.63/10 average rating.
So, hopefully, now that the midfielder is back in action, he can begin delivering a higher standard of performance than he was during the previous campaign.
