Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has recently talked about West Ham United’s chase of Jesse Lingard.
It has been stated that Man United want a fee of £30 million to let Lingard leave this summer and the Hammers are interested in bringing him to the club on a permanent basis. David Moyes hasn’t provided too many details about the club’s potential move.
Should West Ham start looking for Lingard alternatives?
Yes
No
Sheth appeared on the latest edition of the Tier 1 Podcast from Stretford Paddock and one topic of discussion was Lingard’s future. The journalist stated that there is a feeling that Lingard might end up staying at Old Trafford and as a result, the Hammers are already looking at potential alternatives.
The journalist said: “If Lingard is to stay or if he is to go, I think that decision might be left probably after the season has started. Because we’ve got that situation again in the transfer window where the season starts while the window is still open.
“Now, he’s only got a year left of his contract. We know that West Ham United are interested in signing him again, but West Ham are also looking at alternatives because of the noises coming out of United at the moment that Lingard looks like will be staying, as it stands.”
TIF Thoughts on Lingard to West Ham…
Lingard had certainly made quite an impact during his loan spell at West Ham last season, which shows that he’ll be a tried and tested option for them.
While United might be asking for a fee of £30 million to let him go, they’ve already signed Jadon Sancho and Amad Diallo had begun to feature more often last season. Meanwhile, Lingard’s current deal runs out next summer and they wouldn’t want to let the player leave for free.
Therefore, if West Ham can wait until the end of the transfer window, United might be willing to reduce their price out of their fear of not wanting to lose him for free next summer, so they perhaps shouldn’t be looking at alternatives just yet.
