Journalist Tom English has recently spoken about Celtic following their Champions League qualifying exit at the hands of Midtjylland, slamming Odsonne Edouard.
Edouard had featured for the Bhoys against the Danish side away from home but he failed to make an impact as the Hoops got eliminated after losing in extra time. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Brighton over the past week.
Does Edouard want to leave?
Yes
No
English appeared on the latest episode of the BBC Sportsound podcast and Celtic’s exit from the Champions League qualifiers was the main topic of discussion. English wasn’t happy with the performance of Edouard, saying that the striker doesn’t want to be there and he was poor against Midtjylland.
The journalist said: “I have sympathy for the young boys coming in, they’re starting off their careers and they’re saddled with having to do a job in a team where clearly, a number of players – and I’ll include Edouard at the top of the list – who does not want to be at the club anymore.
“He lulled about there all night. It’s a shame, because he’s a terrific footballer but clearly, Ange Postecoglou felt that he did not have another option, he had to play [him].
“He sees Edouard at training, and he probably suspects that Edouard has got one leg out of the door at Celtic Park, but he feels ‘I’ve got to play him because if he can produce something close to his best stuff, he’s better than the other guys we’ve got’.”
TIF Thoughts on Edouard…
Ange Postecoglou has already made it clear in public that he will not stop players from leaving the club and he’s not there to entertain the players. He’s stated that if they want to leave, they are free to do so.
Brighton have already reportedly made an offer for Edouard, whose contract expires in the summer of 2022 and there appears to be no sign of a new deal.
So Celtic wouldn’t want to lose him for free next summer and because of that, it is important that they sell Edouard in the current transfer window, as it will allow them some funds to replace the striker.
