Journalist Tom English has recently slammed the running of Celtic, following the Hoops’ Champions League qualifying exit at the hands of Danish club Midtjylland.

Following Celtic’s 2-1 loss to Midtjylland in extra time, Ange Postecoglou had taken a shot at the club’s board, saying that maybe he wasn’t clear enough about the need for new signings at the club and the required players still haven’t been brought in.

Tom English appeared on the latest episode of the BBC Sportsound podcast and Celtic’s loss was the main topic of the discussion. He slammed the way the club have handled transfers and recruitment.

The journalist said: “Their signing policy is a joke, it’s a joke. They were not ready for this tie. Midtjylland are an ordinary team and Celtic had them on the ropes. They had them on the ropes in Glasgow, they had them on the ropes here, and they let them come off the ropes and knock them out. It’s incredible.

“They refuse to learn their lessons. It’s dopey football administration from Celtic. They keep going into these big Champions League ties underprepared in personnel terms.”

TIF Thoughts on Celtic’s approach in the market…

The Bhoys only got around to appointing Postecoglou in June, having parted with his predecessor, Neil Lennon, in February. At kick-off on Wednesday, of the new arrivals, only Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide and Liel Abada were eligible for selection.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

Shaw and Urhoghide played a limited number of times for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last season, which is a reflection of why Postecoglou may have been reluctant to throw them into a European game as they were left on the bench in Denmark.

While Carl Starfelt and Kyogo Furuhashi have been signed, they aren’t part of the squad yet. It clearly shows that the club had been unprepared for the Champions League qualifiers and English’s criticism is justified.
