Celtic fans are loving the news that Callum McGregor has put pen to paper and signed a new contract with the club.
The 26-year-old has been part of the setup in Parkhead since 2001 and extends his current deal until 2024.
“When you start here as a young kid, you’re just focused on trying to get through the age groups,” he told Celtic TV (via Celticfc.net). “You set yourself that one goal to get to the first team and play a first-team game, and I’m sitting here now coming up to my 250th game.
“To be at the club, hopefully, for the full five years, that will take me to 23 years at Celtic is something I could only have dreamt of as a young player.”
Bhoys fans have welcomed the news on Twitter, appreciating the commitment from the player.

Callum is the kind of player who just gets on with his duties on the field and you rarely notice him, in a very good way. Great signing.

Amazing. Well done Celtic and it’s so good to have you sign a long term contract again Callum. You mean so much to the club and team.

What do we think?
Bhoys fans will be ecstatic that McGregor has committed his long term future to the club. He’s likely to be club captain if Scott Brown ever hangs up his boots, which trumps any move to the Premier League as rumoured.
Apart from a brief loan spell with Notts County earlier in his career, the 26-year-old appears to be very-much a one-club man and has continued to remain as important as ever to the Hoops and Neil Lennon. Having totalled 248 appearances to date, the attacking-midfielder has been ever-present this season, having played 24 times, scoring five goals and assisting a further two (TransferMarkt).
