Speaking exclusively to This is Futbol, Graham Roberts has reiterated Tottenham’s need to sign a centre-back this summer, and has suggested Brighton’s Lewis Dunk as a possible addition.
Despite only leaders Manchester City and Leicester conceding fewer in the top-seven, Spurs’ defensive efforts this term have been nothing short of disastrous.

Of their four-senior centre-backs, Toby Alderweireld has been the most consistent, whilst both Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier have caused major issues at the back following countless costly errors.
Dier has found himself back in favour under Ryan Mason, although the Colombian is anything but, with strong reports emerging that selling Sanchez has become one of Tottenham’s top priorities.
Then there’s Joe Rodon, who’s shown signs of potential, but with less than 10 Premier League starts under his belt, he’s not yet someone Spurs can rely on as a regular and has been left out of the squad altogether by Ryan Mason in recent weeks.
With that in mind, the need for another centre-back is becoming greater with every passing week, especially after seeing what Mason’s team served up at Leeds earlier this month.
And Roberts told This is Futbol that Dunk, who’s been a reliable figure for Brighton, missing just eight games since their promotion in 2017, could help solve some of Spurs’ defensive problems:
“We need a centre-half. Toby is 32, the others are still learning. I just think if they can get an outstanding centre-half, a leader. There’s a few out there, there’s Dunk at Brighton.”
Whilst Dunk doesn’t sound like the most glamourous of signings for Spurs, he would walk into their current side ahead of both Dier and Sanchez in the blink of an eye.
And therefore, if he becomes available, Daniel Levy should be all over it.
