Lewie Coyle is currently on loan with Fleetwood Town in League One and has featured 15 times for the side this season.
Coyle was included on Leeds Live‘s list of Leeds United players that should be moved on in January. The article said: “Once his current loan deal comes to an end, it would make sense for both parties to work out something permanent.”
The 24-year-old has been playing very well in League One this season, managing four assists from the right-back position and is currently averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.92/10. Given his young age, Coyle seems to have adapted to the league well, playing all 90 minutes in his last 10 matches.
His current average WhoScored rating would rank him as the eighth-best performer for Leeds this season, but it’s important to remember that he’s playing in the league below so it’s not a particularly fair stat.
Verdict
It’s unlikely that Coyle is going to be a huge miss at Leeds should he leave. Most importantly for the player is that he’s playing first-team football on an extremely regular basis, which is something the Peacocks definitely can’t offer him, with the defensive positions in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad being extremely competitive as it is.
Indeed, with the likes of Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas having both been deployed as right-backs this season under the Argentine, it would be difficult to see the defender oust either of them from the position if he were to return to Elland Road.
Ayling has achieved an average of one tackle per game, whilst Dallas is recording 1.9 compared to Coyle’s 1.6, whilst interceptions are greater by the current Leeds duo (1.4 and 1.1 respectively to 0.7).
To summarise we think moving away would be a positive step for the 24-year-old to take as it would give him plenty of chances to show off his talents and improve as a defender.
