According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Manchester City are set to hijack Manchester United’s deal for Barcelona star Pedro.
The Spain international, whose CV boasts three Champions League titles, five La Liga titles, the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship, has been expected to leave the Nou Camp for some time after slumping behind Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in the pecking order last season.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been mooted as potential suitors throughout the summer but Manchester United have surged ahead of the pack in the last few weeks.

It’s believed they’ve already agreed personal terms with the 27 year-old – a five-year contract worth £17.5million – and a price with Barcelona – £18million plus a further £4.2million in add-ons.
But according to The Daily Star, who cite Spanish publication Marca, Manchester City are hoping to hijack their local rivals’ deal at the final hour.
City chief Txiki Begiristain, who worked as Director of Football at the Nou Camp between 2003 and 2010, is hoping he can entice his former club by paying a lump £21.2million sum up front with an extra £1.4million in performance-related bonuses.
Pedro’s departure is expected to take place in the coming days, with tonight’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Sevilla likely his last game for the Catalan outfit.
