Journalist Jamie Jackson has been speaking on the Transfer Gossip Daily podcast about how he can’t see Dele Alli staying at Tottenham Hotspur.
In what could well be the most damning moment of his footballing career, Alli was left out of Tottenham Hotspur’s most recent matchday squad and the midfielder was seen to be using TikTok during the club’s defeat on Sunday.
Will Alli leave in January?
Yes!
No!
Alli has been linked with a move away this summer, with Newcastle United reportedly holding an interest in him, and the player himself may well be expecting to leave, as Dan Kilpatrick has reported that Alli has said goodbye to some staff at Spurs in case he does not return after the short winter break Spurs been handed, with no league fixtures on the horizon.
The Guardian’s Jackson fully expects Alli to leave this month, for the good of his career.
He said: “It’s a little bit of a puzzle, but he’s still got the talent. If he’s really serious about getting his career back on track, [becoming a] first-team, proper A-list player again, I think he has to leave sooner rather than later.
“So I’d be surprised if he’s still there in February, because I don’t see him getting back into the squad, never mind the team.”
TIF Thoughts on Dele Alli’s future at Spurs…
It should come as very little surprise that Alli is not seen as good enough or even a required member of the squad under Antonio Conte, with the midfielder yet to net from open play this season or even register an assist – and looking at his goal involvements, they’ve been on a steady decline over the last few seasons.
Alli has not only been faltering at club level, but he’s not received an England cap since June 2019, with players such as Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Emile Smith Rowe all receiving call-ups since then, so if he has any aspirations to reach the heights of the England squad once more, a move away this month appears very necessary, particularly with a World Cup to come.
