Ex-Rangers man Graham Dorrans has claimed ‘it’s the right time’ for Rangers to appoint Michael Beale when speaking to Sky Sports.

Dorrans was at the club for a brief time when Beale was assistant to Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.

Beale has recently taken up the reins in Glasgow, returning to the club following his most recent stint at Queens Park Rangers – and the new Gers boss was given a rave review by Dorrans.

Speaking prior to the official announcement, he stated: “Without being disrespectful to Steven Gerrard, he [Beale] was the one that was on the pitch every day taking all the sessions.

“Steven Gerrard was the manager of the football club, but by all means, Michael Beale was just as important as him. As I said there, he was the one that was doing every training session out on the pitch and doing all the analysis stuff, so he was hugely important in that time, that successful season that they had a couple of years ago.

“I was injured for a huge part of the time that he was there, but watching from afar, his tactical knowledge of the game was second to none. He analysed the opposition and he would transfer that in the sessions that he’d done.

“The experience that he’s got in coaching for the last 10/15 years at clubs in Brazil and Aston Villa, Liverpool, Chelsea – you can see that when he’s on the training pitch.

“I think it’s the right time for Rangers and him to come back up here.”

TIF Thoughts on Dorrans’ comments…

We believe that the appointment of Beale is one that could divide the Rangers fanbase.

There’s no doubt that Beale has the understanding of the expectations from his last stint at the club. However, they currently have a lot of players out of contract in 2023, so their thinking is perhaps that they want a manager who can grow alongside the rebuild of the squad.

However, the results at QPR in recent times suggest that Beale has had his mind elsewhere. He turned down an opportunity to manage Wolves not too long ago out of loyalty.

What this could suggest is that Beale could well in the future leave Rangers when a club he believes is bigger comes knocking. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it, as they say.

With little experience when it comes to managing at the top level, Beale’s appointment could be seen as a gamble. However, his understanding of the club could mean he hits the ground running at Rangers, and we are excited to see how he does at Ibrox.
