Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Leeds United to move on and sell Patrick Bamford given the Englishman’s struggles through injury.
Bamford has been in a difficult patch this season for Leeds with him yet to score in the Premier League this campaign in 10 outings.
To add insult to injury the perfect opportunity for the 29-year-old to escape the pressures of the top flight and find his form again has been scuppered, as the Whites announced he hasn’t joined the rest of the side in their Spain training camp amid minor surgery on a groin injury.
Bamford missed the Whites’ final two league games before the World Cup break with a knock after managing only nine league games last season due to injury.
He looks far from the player that bagged 17 goals and eight assists in the league during the 2020/21 campaign, leading Agbonlahor to tell Football Insider that Leeds should cut the striker:
“It’s a shame as well. I think we could be at the stage where at the end of the season, they cut ties with Bamford.
“When you are as injury prone as he is, it’s going to slow him down even more because he was never the quickest.
“Leeds need to move on,” Agbonlahor said.
TIF Thoughts on Agbonlahor’s comments…
It’s tough to see a way in which Bamford’s time in Yorkshire isn’t numbered, his atrocious form is now being paired with regular injury troubles meaning he isn’t cutting the £74k-per-week wages he earns, the second-highest in the Leeds squad.
Multiple reports have seen Leeds linked with a new striker and anyone remotely clinical touted, with the one-time England international missing nine big chances without scoring, the fourth-highest missed in the Premier League.
It doesn’t end there for the depleted striker with his 6.11 average rating from WhoScored the second worst in Jesse Marsch’s entire squad, only above 19-year-old Mateo Joseph who’s played one minute of league action.
