Journalist Mario Cortegana has revealed that Real Madrid admire Benfica star Enzo Fernandez, but he is not a priority for the club.
The midfielder has been in sensational form for Argentina at the World Cup, scoring a screamer in their victory over Mexico, and the 21-year-old is now on the radar for Europe’s biggest clubs.
The 21-year-old only moved to Europe this summer from River Plate but has stood out at times, scoring three and assisting five times in 24 appearances this season.
Cortegana has now claimed that Real Madrid are fans of the player, who they may consider as an alternative target to Jude Bellingham, but a transfer for him is not high up on their to-do list.
“Sources from Los Blancos have told me that they like the player, but that he is not a priority at the moment,” Cortegana claimed on The Four Amigos Podcast as per Bernabeu Digital.
TIF thoughts on Enzo Fernandez and Real Madrid…
Whilst the Argentine midfielder has burst onto the scene in some style, a move to a top club may still be premature, and waiting until at least the end of the season may benefit the player.
Real are clearly not prioritising him, given their strong depth in midfield and interest in Bellingham, but it is one to potentially keep an eye on for future windows.
With Toni Kroos and Luka Modric ageing, Los Blancos are still strong in the middle with Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde, but given the high potential of Fernandez, it may be a deal they explore down the line.
Right now their priority is securing the future services of wunderkind striker Endrick, whilst there also have been links to defender Josko Gvardiol, and spending huge money on the Benfica star does not look likely.
