Journalist, Craig Hope has spoken to his YouTube channel about the latest on the injury situation surrounding Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

He expected that the forward would be playing in the club’s friendly in Suadi Arabia, but that wasn’t to be the case, ‘it is a setback’, he stated.

Isak joined the club in the summer for a fee of £63 million from La Liga side, Real Sociedad. The Swede suffered an injury back in September whilst training on international duty.

The last time Newcastle fans will have seen the 23-year-old in action was against Bournemouth, where he netted from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw.

Hope said (9:20): “While there’s been no setback in terms of injury, it still is for me when we left going into the World Cup, I personally expected to see Alexander Isak playing in a Newcastle shirt out here in Saudi. It is a setback in that sense the timescale has shifted back a little bit.”

TIF’s view on Hope’s comments…

It’s a disappointing blow for many Newcastle fans. They’ll be hoping that he’ll be eligible for selection, once the competitive fixtures come around later this month.

The Magpies take on Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on December 21 and then will travel to face Leicester City in the Premier League on Boxing Day.

Despite only making three league appearances, Isak already has a strong goal return. He’s scored twice, once against Liverpool and then another against Bournemouth.

So when he does return and is ready to play once again, plenty of Newcastle fans will be ecstatic. He’s proven he can be a real goal-scoring threat in the past, in the 2020/21 campaign he netted 17 La Liga goals for Real Sociedad.

Newcastle have found plenty of goals this season, they’ve netted 29 Premier League goals so far this season, the fourth-best. Adding Isak back into the equation could mean even more goals for the Magpies in the second half of the season.
