Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that a deal to bring Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea is nearly complete.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs stated that a transfer deal for the Frenchman in the summer of 2023 is set to be completed, and the forward will join from RB Leipzig.
“Nkunku, that deal is basically done for the summer of 2023, so Nkunku is going to come in in the summer,” Jacobs claimed.
The forward has scored 17 times in 23 appearances this season but was ruled out of the World Cup with an injury, in a big blow to Didier Deschamps and France.
Once confirmed, the 25-year-old will be Graham Potter’s first foray into the transfer market since he joined from Brighton in September, and with a TransferMarkt valuation of €80m (£68.7m), it will be a significant one.
TIF thoughts on Nkunku…
Chelsea certainly need a refresh in attack, and Nkunku could be the perfect signing for Potter as he looks to stamp his mark on the team.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang isn’t getting any younger and has failed to impress in recent weeks. Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling are also struggling for consistency, and Nkunku’s versatility means that he can comfortably play in any of these attacking positions.
With Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku failing to deliver after big-money transfers, Chelsea have not had much luck with attacking signings in recent years, and it is hoped that Nkunku will help begin an era of more successful deals under Todd Boehly and Potter.
“Christopher has no weaknesses. He is young and still wants a lot more,” his former manager Jesse Marsch once stated of him.
“Working with him is a lot of fun as he is really intelligent and has a lot of potential.”
A significant signing in both value and statement, Nkunku is sure to add extra attacking quality to a side which needs it.
