Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag appreciates Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, according to a new report.
Ramos burst once the scene at the World Cup with Portugal, scoring a hat-trick in the 6-1 round of 16 victory against Switzerland, a game in which he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting XI after a slow start to the tournament from the 37-year-old.
While Manchester United have looked solid enough since parting ways with Ronaldo back in November, winning their last nine competitive games in all competitions, they are yet to bring in a star striker as a replacement, with Wout Weghorst surely more of a squad depth addition.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the Red Devils have had the most recent interest in the 21-year-old, who has also been targeted by clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United and Southampton.
A special mention is given to Ten Hag, with the report claiming that the manager is an appreciator of the striker’s qualities, however it is also detailed that Benfica are planning to increase his salary soon.
TIF thoughts on Ramos to Man United…
The starlet is enjoying a remarkable season in the Primeira Liga, already beating his total of seven from last season by netting on 11 occasions in 14 appearances this term, while he has also shown a creative side by bagging four assists.
Gary Lineker hailed the forward as ‘remarkable’ for the way in which he handled the pressure of replacing Portugal’s all-time top scorer in Qatar, which is a good indicator of the mentality instilled in the youngster, and it bodes well in terms of being able to thrive at a club as demanding as Man United.
The Red Devils have been in very good form, but Anthony Martial has failed to score in six of the last seven competitive games which he has started, indicating that Ten Hag needs a new striker, and Ramos would be a very good acquisition.
