Journalist, Dean Jones have given his verdict on West Ham United’s pursuit of Blackburn Rovers striker, Ben Brereton Diaz.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed the Hammers are in a ‘good position’ to sign the Chilean forward.
A number of Premier League clubs are also interested in the Blackburn striker, including the likes of Everton, Bournemouth and Leeds United according to The Sun.
The Championship side bought Brereton Diaz from Nottingham Forest back in 2018, for a fee of around £6 million. Since then, he’s made 152 appearances in all competitions for Blackburn.
Jones stated:
“I think West Ham are still in a pretty good position on this one for whenever the time comes to move, but he’s been prepped by a lot of teams this season, like a ridiculous number of teams.”
TIF’s view on Jones’ comments…
We believe that West Ham need to bring in a new striker in January, getting goals has been a big problem for the Hammers this season.
David Moyes’ side are 16th in the league and only one point off the relegation zone. West Ham have only netted 12 Premier League goals this season, only three sides have scored less than them.
Breteton Diaz, who has been hailed as ‘extraordinary’, has been a fantastic goalscorer for Blackburn. The Chilean has 12 goal contributions from 23 Championship games this season. In the 2021/22 campaign, he picked up 25 goal contributions from 37 league matches.
He may feel that a move to the Premier League is the next logical step up for him. The Hammers only have Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio at their disposal up front.
However, there is a potential issue should West Ham sign him. The 23-year-old has no experience playing in England’s top flight. He may need time to adapt to the league, in a relegation battle, West Ham may have no margin for error.
