Rangers should go out and appoint Sean Dyche, should they decide to part ways with Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

That’s according to former top-flight goalkeeper, Paul Robinson. He spoke to Football Insider about why he believes the out-of-work boss would be a strong pick-up for any team, including Rangers.

After a 10-year spell, Dyche was sacked by Burnley in April. He’s yet to take on another job as of yet, but amid the pressure on the Gers boss, Robinson feels any club would be lucky to have Dyche.

He also claimed that the ex-Burnley boss is capable of playing an attractive style of football if he’s given enough financial backing.

Speaking prior to Rangers’ latest draw in the Scottish Premiership, he said: “If Van Bronckhorst was to go, Dyche would be an excellent appointment.

“Whoever gets Sean Dyche next will be getting a brilliant manager.

“He is unfairly tarnished with a style of play. He played that way because of the players and the budget that he had. He is more than capable of playing an attractive brand of football with a bigger budget with better players. A lot of what was done at Burnley was down to the personnel at his disposal.

“Man-management is one of his best attributes. Sean will be desperate to prove himself at the next club he goes to.”

TIF Thoughts on Robinson’s comments…

We believe that it would definitely be interesting to see what Dyche can do with a return to management. However, Rangers might not be the best fit for the manager labelled ‘phenomenal‘ amid links to the then-vacant role at Southampton.

As to whether Dyche could play a more attractive brand of football, it’s hard to say. He’s spent the vast majority of his managerial career at Burnley, where his preferred formation has been a 4-4-2, while his methods have come under scrutiny for their uniqueness despite not being easy on the eye.

So how Robinson knows that Dyche is capable of this, we don’t know. We don’t feel as though Rangers will look for a manager who doesn’t play a style of football that divides fans’ opinions.

That’s not to say Dyche is a bad manager – he kept Burnley in the Premier League for many years on a tight budget. A number of clubs in England would understandably want to bring him in, but whether he would be able to demonstrate his talents at the top of the Scottish game represents a potential gamble the Gers would be brave to take if Van Bronckhorst is sacked.
