Phil Hay has been speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s The Phil Hay Show about all things relating to Leeds United.
One of the main topics that Hay spent some time on was the contract situation of Ezgjan Alioski.
The 28-year-old’s deal runs out at the end of June, and has not signed a new contract to extend his stay at Elland Road as of yet.
However, according to Hay, it seems as if the Whites are pretty relaxed about the situation and think that Alioski’s contract will be sorted.
He said: “Leeds are looking like they are going to go for a left-back in the summer, which obviously calls into question where Alioski would fit, but that’s not to say they don’t want to keep him – they do.
“They’re talking to him about a new deal, they would like him to sign one, they’re pretty confident, actually, that he will.
“There have been links to other clubs, particularly Galatasaray.
“When I speak to Leeds, it still sounds to me as if they think he will stick around, as if he will take an extension to his contract.”
Do you think Alioski deserves a new contract?
Yes, he has done well
No, let him go
TIF Thoughts on Alioski…
Alioski is a versatile player who can operate anywhere down the left, but has mainly played at left-back this season.
The 28-year-old has made 19 Premier League appearances and has scored two goals in the process, earning an underwhelming average rating of 6.59/10, which ranks him in 13th place in Leeds’ squad (as per WhoScored).
However, with his contract running out, he could be leaving Elland Road in the summer, but the Whites seem very relaxed about the whole situation, if Hay is to be believed.
So, it will be interesting to see what happens, but it is clear that Alioski has been an integral part of the team for the Whites this season and we would like to see him stay with Leeds.
