Former Premier League striker Dean Windass has exclusively told This is Futbol that Philippe Coutinho’s Liverpool connections wouldn’t put him off joining Everton.
The Brazilian spent five-and-a-half seasons with the Reds, but following uncertainty surrounding his Barcelona future, strong reports suggest that he could make a shock move to the Toffees this summer.
Will Everton sign Philippe Coutinho this summer?
Yes
No
Coutinho still has more than two years left on his Barca deal but has endured a difficult time at the Camp Nou following his £145m move from Liverpool three years ago.
He impressed during his first 18 months in Spain but was loaned out to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019 and has missed most of this season with knee problem.
Having not appeared since late-December, Coutinho has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
£35m is the fee being reported, with the La Liga giants keen on getting the attacking midfielder off their wage bill.
“He’s a number 10 and can play on the left. I don’t think it would faze him because he played at Anfield, it’s not like a Nicky Barmby going from Everton to Liverpool,” Windass told This is Futbol.
“I think yes, because of the manager, that’s what appeals to people. The manager sells the club to players and he’s a great fit – they’ve done reasonably well compared to the last few years.
“I don’t think any player would turn their nose up, so that would be an interesting one if Coutinho wants to do that.”
